Project Management at The Amend Group provided on-site management of the development of this 2,000,000 sf office campus. MCI, a premier provider of fully integrated local, long distance, international and Internet services, required an evaluation of alternative means of housing its growing Internet subsidiary, UUNet Technologies. UUNet was experiencing rapid personnel growth, at times as high as 1% per day and needed new facilities quickly.
After a comprehensive market evaluation and a site search over approximately 400 square miles in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties, The Amend Group selected and acquired a site that would minimize employee commute inconveniences and combine the attributes of cost effectiveness, flexibility and employee attraction/retention. A total of 540 acres was purchased for MCI to provide for their requirements and for commercial development.
The premium site selected for the MCI campus facility was a 135-acre tract, which was ideal for the 2 million square foot office complex that would satisfy MCIs requirements. Project Management staffed the project with a project director, two field project managers and a project engineer, all on site. Management, integration and coordination of the project was done by Project Management at The Amend Group, who managed the master planning, design, budget, schedule, construction and quality of the project for MCI.
The completed facility includes twelve multistory office modules, a centerpiece building featuring the main entrance lobby and cafeteria and a central plant. Six 3-story parking garages provide parking for over 8,000 employees at the complex. A recreational facility and child-care facility will complete the development of this site.
This project, which has won numerous industry recognitions and awards, is an outstanding example of the capability of The Amend Group's Project Management team to bring in a project on schedule, in budget and meet all the expectations of the client.
