The State of Texas Building and Procurement Commission selected The Amend Group to provide Project Management Services to The Texas Department of Health for a phased, $20,000,000, 75-bed hospital project. The intent is to upgrade patient services and provide a state-of-the-art patient housing facility for both infectious diseases control and, if required, a convertible biological treatment facility.
The existing facilities have had minimal upgrades since they were built in the mid-1950’s and, therefore, a complex variety of services are required. Abatement of a 66,000 square foot hospital building, which included both X-ray and surgical suites, had to be certified before demolition. The Amend Group managed the phased abatement and patient relocation to obtain maximum use of the facility while other facilities on campus were being renovated. Abatement was completed under budget and within the prescribed schedule.
Both the existing hospital and the site utilities were dated and in need of vast upgrades. The Amend Group worked with the design team to ensure that the development of a design and construction package brought about the needed changes and ensured the hospital would continue to be able to treat patients who had nowhere else to go. The Amend Group managed the demolition of the old hospital building and installation of new gas and water utility service, rerouting of telephones, nurse call system, CCTV, and MATV. This was all performed on time, under budget, and without loss of service.
Due to State-imposed constraints, the new hospital design is being reviewed, and an alternate site is under consideration. Because of The Amend Group’s performance, the company has been requested to continue to manage the project.
